google are working with Verizon Wireless to create a new ‘iPad challenger’. Lowell McAdam the carriers CEO said today that the company is trying hard to catch up with the iPad host AT&T for mobile connectivity.
McAdam spoke to the Wall Street Journal and said “What do we think the next big wave of opportunities are?. We’re working on tablets together, for example. We’re looking at all the things google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make a great experience.”
Verizon Wireless have not spoken to any press to discuss details on the release or the manufacturer of the upcoming tablet and google’s position in the project has yet to be specifically defined although a smartphone tie in would be a good guess. google press also declined to speak to KitGuru about the matter when we phoned them this morning.
This move heralds a new age for mobile, wireless devices that can surf the internet and run software applications – without the hassle of carrying a bulky laptop in a case – a market the iPad is currently dominating. Over 1 million sales in the USA in the first month would verify the public demand.
